Why did Speedpass+™ transition to the Esso and Mobil™ App on or after December 6th, 2023?

When the Speedpass+™ app launched in 2017, it was Canada’s first mobile fuel payment and loyalty app providing Canadians with a new convenient and secure way to pay for their fuel at Esso™ and Mobil™ stations. The Speedpass+™ app technology has approached end of life, and we transitioned to the Esso and Mobil™ App on or after December 6th, 2023.

As a loyal Speedpass+™ user, we do hope you will continue to fuel at Esso and Mobil locations experiencing the Esso and Mobil™ App.

Is my Speedpass+™ account still active?

Active Speedpass+™ accounts over the last 2 years were converted to Esso and Mobil™ App accounts. If your Speedpass+™ account was not active over the last 2 years, your Speedpass+™ account was deleted along with the link to any payment cards, Gift Cards, and Fuel Discount cards, and receipt history. You will need to create a new account for the Esso and Mobil™ App.

What happened to my previously linked credit cards in the Speedpass+™ wallet?

Active Speedpass+™ accounts over the last 2 years were converted to accounts on the Esso and Mobil™ App, and previously linked credit cards remain available in the Esso and Mobil™ App. You will see your credit cards linked to your Esso and Mobil™ App once you complete the sign in process on the Esso and Mobil™ App.

Please note that your “default” payment card selection on the Speedpass+™ app was not part of the transition process to the Esso and Mobil™ App. If you would like to set a default payment method in the Esso and Mobil™ App, follow the below steps.

  1. Once logged in to the app, tap "More" at the bottom right.
  2. Tap "Wallet" and select the card you wish to make your default.
  3. Toggle the "Preferred Payment Method" button to enable or disable your default payment choice.

Updates on your payments preferences made on Speedppass+™ account 22 days prior to the release of the Esso and Mobil™ App on or after December 6th, 2023, were not migrated to the Esso and Mobil™ App.

If your Speedpass+™ account was not active over the last 2 years, your Speedpass+™ account was deleted along with the link to any payment cards, Gift Cards and Fuel Discount cards, and receipt history. You will need to create a new account for the Esso and Mobil™ App and add any payment cards you would like to use for purchases.

What happened to my previously linked PC Optimum™ loyalty card in the Speedpass+™ app wallet?

The Esso and Mobil™ App was enhanced to provide exclusive loyalty benefits and offers through linking your PC™id directly to the Esso and Mobil™ App. Since PC™id linking is now available on the Esso and Mobil™ App, the previous link between your PC Optimum™ card and the Speedpass+™ app was deleted.

What happened to my previously linked Esso and Mobil Gift Cards and Fuel Discount Cards in the Speedpass+™ wallet?

The released version of the Esso and Mobil™ App does not have the ability to link an Esso™ and Mobil™ Gift Card and Fuel Discount Cards. We are actively working on enhancing the Esso and Mobil™ App features to be able to link your Esso™ and Mobil™ Gift Cards and Fuel Discount Cards to use in your app transaction. This feature will be included in a future release. Any active Gift Cards and/or Fuel Discount Cards you had linked to your Speedpass+™ account prior to the Esso and Mobil™ App are not available on the Esso and Mobil™ App, but have been emailed to you in December, 2023.

What happened to my Speedpass+™ receipts?

If you had your Speedpass+™ preferences set to enable email receipts, a copy of the receipt was emailed after every Speedpass+™ transaction. Your previous receipt history from Speedpass+™ will not be displayed in the Esso and Mobil™ App once you update the app.

What happened to my unexpired Car Wash Codes listed on my Speedpass+™ account?

You will see your Car Wash Codes which were purchased within the last 90 days until November 7, 2023, in your Esso and Mobil™ App account once you complete the sign in process on the Esso and Mobil™ App.

I don't remember my password; how do I change it before logging in the first time?

Follow these steps to reset your password (pre-sign in):

  1. Open the Esso and Mobil™ App and choose "Already a member? Sign in"
  2. Select "Forgot Password?"
  3. Follow the instructions to reset your password.

You can also reset your password anytime within the app by going to "More" at the bottom right. Tap on "Settings" and choose "Security". Tap the reset password option and follow the in-app steps.

Can I still use the Apple Watch?

Apple Watch is no longer supported on the Esso and Mobil™ App.

I no longer use the app; how do I delete my old account?

If you have access to your account on the Esso and Mobil™ App, you can delete the account yourself by following these easy steps:

  1. From the home screen tap "More" at the bottom right corner.
  2. Tap on "Privacy and Terms"
  3. Choose "Delete Account" and follow the in-app steps.

I want to change the email I'm using in the updated app; can I do that?

Unfortunately, app functionality to modify your email address is not available.

Do I need to manually update Speedpass+™ on or after December 6, 2023?

If you have your setting preferences to auto-update your apps, you won´t need to take any extra steps. Your Speedpass+™ app will automatically update as the Esso and Mobil™ App on or after December 6, 2023.

If your preferences are configured for manual apps updates, you will need to update the Speedpass+™app on or after December 6, 2023 to have the latest version (the Esso and Mobil™ App). You can quickly update the Speedpass+™ app going to the Google Play Store for Android or App Store for Apple.

What is the Esso and Mobil™ App?

The Esso and Mobil™ App is a mobile payment and loyalty application you can install on your smartphone in order to pay for fuel, or fuel with car wash at the pump at participating Esso™ and Mobil™ stations across Canada. The Speedpass+™ app will become the Esso and Mobil™ App on or after December 6th, 2023.

How do I pay for fuel using the Esso and Mobil™ App?

Once you have registered for an account and onboarded at least one payment card, open the Esso and Mobil™ App and select "Pay at Pump" . Follow the simple transaction process on your smartphone.

Is Google Pay or Apple Pay accepted in the updated app?

Yes, you can include Apple Pay or Google Pay as one of the payment methods in the Esso and Mobil™ App.

The updated app doesn't ask me to pick the pump, how do I do that?

From the home screen, select Pay at Pump. On the Pay at Pump screen, verify the site location listed and type the pump number beside "PUMP NO.".

How does the Esso and Mobil™ App know my location?

Imperial takes privacy very seriously, so your location will never be used without your permission. The Esso and Mobil™ App obtains your location from your mobile phone through its geo-location feature. If your location-based services are turned on, the Esso and Mobil™ App will be able to use it to identify which station you are at.

What if the app doesn't recognize my location?

If your location-based services are turned off or there are network issues, you will be prompted to scan the QR code on the pump if you selected Pay at Pump. Only participating stations will accept mobile payments at the pump. Please check the most current information on where the Esso and Mobil™ App is accepted as we continue to expand acceptance of the app at more stations. Please see "Station" within the Esso and Mobil™ App and use the filter to search for "Mobile Payments". Or go to visit esso.ca/find-a-station for more information.

How do I scan the QR code on the pump?

If you selected Pay at Pump and your location-based services are turned off or there are network issues, you be directed to scan the QR code, your phone camera will open automatically in the Esso and Mobil™ App. Hold your phone two inches away from the pump and center the QR code on your screen. The app will scan the code once it's in view.

How does the QR code work?

The Esso and Mobil™ App must be able to access the camera on your mobile phone in order to scan and read the QR code. Please ensure that this functionality is turned on when completing transactions.

Do I still need to select my pump number when scanning the QR code?

Yes. You will still be required to enter the pump number. The next step is to activate the pump.

Yes. A valid phone number is required to register for an Esso and Mobil™ App account.

Where is my receipt stored in the app?

Tap the "More" button in the bottom right of the screen and select "Transaction History" to display a copy of transaction receipts. You can also view your car wash codes by toggling the "Car Wash" view on the same screen.

Where can I find a print receipt when I purchase a car wash?

A receipt is automatically printed at the pump when a car wash is purchased.

Can I modify my receipt preference in the Esso and Mobil™ App?

Yes, receipt preferences can be modified in the Esso and Mobil™ App. Tap the "More" button at the bottom right corner, select "Settings" and tap on "Notifications". The notification screen will allow you to select your preference for when you will receive an email or paper receipt.

Why did the Esso and Mobil™ App decline the authorization of my fuel purchase?

Each credit card company has its own rules to protect its consumers from potential fraud. If you receive a decline message from the Esso and Mobil™ App, please try contacting your credit card company.

How secure is the app?

The Esso and Mobil™ App has security standards in place to ensure all data is kept private and secure. The initial set-up process makes use of two-factor authentication steps to confirm the validity of the customer and credit card.

Is it safe to use my cell phone at the pump?

Independent research has shown that smartphone technology can be used safely for pump payment. We do not recommend making calls while fuelling your vehicle.

Currently, the Esso and Mobil™ App accepts Visa consumer credit card, MasterCard consumer credit card, American Express consumer credit card, and Apple Pay or Google Pay mobile wallets. Esso™ and Mobil™ Gift Card and Fuel Discount Card functionality will be available at a later date, and will be timely communicated.

How do I add a credit card?

Tap the "More" button in the bottom right of the screen, select "Wallet" and tap "Add Payment" at the top right corner. Follow the on-screen instructions to add a payment card.

How do I earn PC Optimum™ points when I use the Esso and Mobil™ App?

When you sign up for Esso and Mobil™ App, you can earn PC Optimum™ points when making qualifying purchases at participating Esso™ and Mobil™ stations. Simply link your PC Optimum account by logging in with your PC™id in the Esso and Mobil™ App to start earning PC Optimum™ points for great rewards.

Do I still need to keep my PC Optimum™ Card?

Yes. At Esso™ or Mobil™ stations that do not accept the Esso and Mobil™ App, you will need to swipe your PC Optimum™ card at the pump in order to collect PC Optimum™ points.

Can I use the Esso and Mobil™ App to collect PC Optimum™ points even if I don't pay with my Esso and Mobil™ App?

Yes. You can scan the digital barcode of the PC Optimum™ card that is displayed from the Esso and Mobil™ App, and then present a different payment method for your purchases.

The digital barcode of your PC Optimum™ card can be displayed by tapping "Scan" when in the loyalty section of the Esso and Mobil™ App. You can scan the digital barcode in order to collect PC Optimum points. Please note by tapping "Scan" in the loyalty section of the Esso and Mobil™ App you will be redirected to the PC Optimum™ app. You can navigate back to the Esso and Mobil™ App by clicking the back arrow.

How do I delete my Esso and Mobil™ App account?

In the "More" section at the bottom right, navigate to "Privacy and Terms" and tap on "Delete Account". Follow the on-screen steps to complete the process.

Deleting your Esso and Mobil™ App account means you will not be able to collect points through the Esso and Mobil™ App. There will be no impact to the PC Optimum™ points you have already earned.

What happens when I delete my account?

Once you have completed the steps, your account will be deleted immediately, and you will be logged out. Please ensure you gather any required information prior to deleting your account such as receipts, car wash codes…etc as they will not be accessible if you recreate your account.

Can I continue to use the Esso and Mobil™ App after deleting my account?

Once you delete your account you will no longer be able to access your Esso and Mobil™ App account. You will have to create a new account as a new member to use the Esso and Mobil™ app.
